Nigeria is intensifying efforts to achieve a daily gas production of 10 billion Standard Cubic Feet (SCF) by 2030, according to Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
In a statement issued by Mr. Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance, Edun outlined this ambition during a meeting with the management of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) in Abuja on Thursday.
During the discussions, Edun highlighted Nigeria’s progress in creating a competitive and investor-friendly environment, crediting President Bola Tinubu’s economic stabilization efforts.
“Through comprehensive tax reforms, we are fostering a business landscape that encourages investment in both manufacturing and energy sectors,” Edun stated, emphasizing the critical role of stakeholder input in shaping these reforms.
CEO of NLNG, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, provided updates on operational advancements, including enhanced gas supply, improved security along the Trans-Niger pipeline, and infrastructure capacity utilization exceeding 70%.
He also noted progress on the Bodo-Bonny Road project and advocated for extending the East-West highway under the tax credit scheme.
“Nigeria is on the cusp of unlocking its vast energy potential, and this meeting represents a pivotal step toward meeting our 2030 gas production targets,” Mshelbila remarked.
The discussions reflect Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging its energy resources to drive economic growth, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration.
With strategic reforms and partnerships, the nation aims to position itself among the world’s leading gas producers by the end of the decade.
