Regimental Medical Officer of 6 Battalion, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, died from critical burns sustained during a violent domestic altercation with his wife, Mrs. Retyit Obadiah Dalong Samson Haruna.
The 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ibagwa, Akwa Ibom State, has expressed profound grief over the passing of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, the Regimental Medical Officer of 6 Battalion, who died from critical burns sustained during a violent domestic altercation with his wife, Mrs. Retyit Obadiah Dalong Samson Haruna.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on September 22, 2025, at the couple’s residence in Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa.
In a statement issued by Captain Lawal Bala Muhammad, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 2 Brigade Headquarters, Uyo, he disclosed that:
> “Preliminary investigation revealed that the tragic incident occurred after a heated argument between the couple, reportedly stemming from family crisis, which escalated when Mrs. Haruna allegedly set ablaze properties in the house and the officer was caught by the inferno.”
Lieutenant Haruna, though initially stabilized at the Battalion Medical Facility, was later transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
> “The Nigerian Army strongly condemns this act of domestic violence, recognizing the imperative of peaceful coexistence and respect within families,” the statement continued.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Lieutenant Haruna.”
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to promoting healthy family relationships and tackling domestic violence through awareness, dialogue, and support.
> “The Nigerian Army will continue to advocate for healthy relationships, addressing domestic violence, and fostering a culture of respect and dialogue within families and communities.
> “The Nigerian Army is calling for all parties to remain calm while awaiting outcome of military police investigation.”
