In a series of coordinated operations across Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto States, Nigerian Army troops have liberated seven kidnapped passengers, detained nine suspected terrorist informants, and seized weapons and motorcycles.
A reliable military source shared these details with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, noting that the operations were conducted under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
In Katsina, troops from the 17 Brigade swiftly responded to a distress call along the Sheme–Funtua Road, where terrorists had blocked the highway with two trucks and abducted passengers.
Engaging the assailants in combat, the troops forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee, enabling the safe rescue of all seven victims.
“The troops’ rapid response was critical in saving these lives,” the source stated.
In Zamfara State, soldiers from 1 Brigade ambushed terrorists at Magazu village in Tsafe Local Government Area, confiscating four motorcycles and a bomb.
Additionally, troops at Forward Operating Base Galadi in Shinkafi LGA repelled a fierce attack by motorcycle-riding terrorists, successfully reoccupying the base with reinforcement support.
In Sokoto State, patrols in Yaka, Boto, and Bachaka villages of Gudu Local Government Area led to the arrest of nine individuals suspected of providing logistics and information to terrorists.
“These arrests disrupt the terrorists’ support networks,” the military source noted.
During a visit to Katsina on Wednesday, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, praised the troops for their courage and professionalism, urging them to maintain high standards.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to neutralizing terrorists, bandits, and criminals,” Oluyede declared, encouraging citizens to provide timely intelligence to bolster security efforts.
