Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has been named among the world’s most influential AI leaders in the 2025 TIME100 Artificial Intelligence list, alongside global tech pioneers like Elon Musk and Sam Altman.
Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the minister, Isime Esene, announced the recognition in a statement on Thursday, noting that the TIME100 AI list honors the top 100 individuals shaping the future of artificial intelligence.
“This prestigious list reflects the contributions of leaders, innovators, and thinkers driving AI’s global impact,” Esene stated.

According to Esene, TIME’s editorial team compiled the list by analyzing major AI developments over the past year, consulting with industry experts and leaders to identify those making significant contributions.
“The result is a definitive roster of 100 individuals who are defining the trajectory of AI,” he added.
Tijani’s inclusion underscores Nigeria’s rising prominence in harnessing AI for inclusive and sustainable growth.
He highlighted the National AI Strategy (NAIS), which brought together over 120 Nigerian experts to craft a framework for the responsible development and application of AI.
“This strategy focuses on research and practical AI applications in sectors like healthcare, agriculture, education, and financial inclusion,” Tijani explained.
With support from partners such as Google and the Gates Foundation, Nigeria is empowering local innovators by providing resources, mentorship, and support to transform AI ideas into tangible solutions.
“This recognition from TIME affirms Nigeria’s potential to lead globally in the ethical and inclusive use of AI to boost productivity,” Tijani said.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to leveraging AI to drive innovation and support President Bola Tinubu’s vision of building a one-trillion-dollar economy.
“Nigeria is dedicated to using AI to create opportunities for its people and advance responsible technology on a global scale,” Tijani concluded.
