Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso
By HARUNA AHMED, Kano –
New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has called on Northern youths to dismiss allegations by Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, its former 2023 presidential candidate, that the Federal Government is marginalizing the North, labeling the claims as baseless.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos by its National Secretary, Dr. Olaposi Ogini, the NNPP criticized Kwankwaso for making inflammatory remarks aimed at stirring unrest.
The party described his assertion that the Tinubu-led administration is neglecting the North, particularly in road projects, as a deliberate attempt to incite crisis.
The NNPP expressed concern over such statements from a former senator, minister, and governor, noting that they could exacerbate existing national challenges. “Kwankwaso’s allegations are not only unfounded but also dangerous, as they risk fueling unrest,” the statement read. The party called for Kwankwaso to provide evidence to support his claims.
The NNPP highlighted that Kwankwaso’s history of controversial statements and anti-party activities led to his expulsion from the party. “Since joining us in 2023, Kwankwaso has caused unnecessary legal disputes and spoken on behalf of the party despite no longer being a member,” the statement added.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the NNPP cautioned that politicians like Kwankwaso may continue spreading misinformation. The party urged Nigerians to demand evidence for such claims and emphasized that malicious falsehoods are cause for concern.
The NNPP also refuted Kwankwaso’s claims by pointing to records showing that the Federal Government has implemented more road projects in the North than in the South. “The facts are clear for all to see. Kwankwaso’s motives behind these baseless allegations are questionable,” the statement noted.
The party encouraged Northern youths to verify the government’s achievements independently and to scrutinize Kwankwaso’s record during his tenure as a senator, minister, and governor. “The North should not be swayed by Kwankwaso’s tactics,” the NNPP stressed.
The Presidency has previously dismissed Kwankwaso’s claims as groundless. Similarly, the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, stated on Saturday that the North has the highest number of ongoing infrastructure projects in the country.
