The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 12 persons suspected of vandalizing Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) in Abuja during the nationwide protest.
According to the Spokesperson, FCT Command of the NSCDC, Mr. Samuel Idoko, the suspects were arrested between Monday and Wednesday. “Three of the suspects were arrested while attempting to vandalise some infrastructure at the Moshood Abiola Stadium,” Idoko said.
Additionally, four suspects were arrested while vandalising street lights within the suburbs and city centre, while one scavenger was arrested in the city centre. Four others were arrested in Kuje while vandalising an electrical installation.
FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, had earlier warned all miscreants and mischief makers to stay away from all CNAI in the territory. “Anyone caught destroying public properties will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Odumosu warned.
The Commandant also appealed to residents to always alert the NSCDC and other security agencies of attempts by criminals to vandalise national assets, adding that every Nigerian is a stakeholder in the protection of CNAI.
Odumosu also urged residents to go about their businesses without fear of security threats after monitoring the security situation in the FCT. “We will not tolerate any form of vandalism or destruction of public properties in Abuja,” he said.
The arrests are a clear indication of the determination of the NSCDC to protect CNAI and maintain law and order in Abuja. Residents are urged to continue to support the efforts of the security agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
