Federal Government, through the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), has reaffirmed its commitment to stronger social security and employees’ compensation systems following renewed engagement with the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference currently holding in Geneva, Switzerland.
The ISSA Secretary General, Marcelo Abi-Ramia Caetano, met with a delegation from NSITF led by the Executive Director, Administration, Samaila Abdu, who stood in for the Managing Director, Barr. Oluwaseun Faleye.
ISSA is the global body for social security institutions, with more than 340 member organisations across 165 countries.
Caetano commended NSITF for hosting a successful regional conference in Abuja earlier in the year and praised the current management of the Fund for what he described as steady efforts in strengthening social security systems in West Africa.
He also noted NSITF’s continued engagement with ISSA and its support for the growth of social protection programmes across the region and beyond.
It would be recalled that NSITF hosted social security agencies from West Africa on April 22 and 23 in Abuja at an ISSA-backed conference themed: “ _Improving Inclusiveness and Accessibility of Social Security Services Through Effective Communication in West Africa.”_
