NYSC DG visits Nigerian Army 7 Division, lauds its support to the scheme in Borno

The Director-General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, while on an assessment tour of the orientation camp in Maiduguri, paid a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC),.7 Division at the Headquarters in Maimalari Cantonment, on Saturday, 27 April 2024.

Stating the purpose of his visit, Brigadier General Ahmed disclosed that he is on a state tour to assess the NYSC orientation camp in Borno state, the activities and well-being of Corps members after reopening the camp for training activities which was hitherto closed over a decade due to insurgency in the state.

He was glad to state that since the reopening of the camp, there has not been any security threat nor complaints reported so far.

He further said the state coordinator has informed him of the immense support and collaboration by the Division in terms of personnel for training and security at the camp and most importantly for the welfare and moral support accorded to Corps members deployed in the Division.

The NYSC DG, therefore, expressed gratitude to the GOC and his team for that kind gesture and effort.

The GOC 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna in his response, said “Before this period, the scheme had experienced glitches in handling issues concerning the wellbeing and safety of corps members in the state due to the activities of insurgency”.

However, he added that with the relative peace in the state and the reopening of the camp, we are proud to have the 4th batch currently training at the camp.

He used the medium to assure the DG, all parents, prospective corps members, and other stakeholders that Borno is safe and secure for continuous NYSC training and that there should be no cause for panic at all levels.

The visit which was characterized by speech making, interactive session, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs, was also attended by the Chief of Staff 7 Division, Formations and Unit Commanders, Principal Staff Officers of 7 Division as well as the entourage of the DG.
