
Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II

Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has conferred chieftaincy titles on several notable citizens in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the community and their commitment to preserving Benin culture.
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that the ceremony, which took place at the Ugha Ozolua in Oba Palace, Benin, was a grand affair that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom.
Among the honourees are: Chief Godwin Emovon Ihama, who received the title of Obariyekagbon of Benin for his contributions to society and commitment to Benin culture; Chief Kenneth Osadebamwen Iduriase, who was honoured with the title of Obazuhunwa of Benin; Chief Osayawe Friday Odia, who became the new Eriyo of Benin; Chief Nosakhare Osadiaye, who received the title of Uheloro of Benin.
Others are Chief Charles Agbonavbare Asemota, who was honoured with the title of Osarodion of Benin; Chief Patrick Okao, who was named Oka’ayagbona of Benin, was praised for his outstanding service; Chief John Aiyamenkhue, who is now the Obayangbon of Benin; Osaigbovo Osamwonyi, who was affirmed as the Akenuwa of Benin; Chief Stephen Amadin, who received the title of Obamarhiaye of Benin; Chief Uyi Okungbowa, who received the title of Ogua of Benin.
The ceremony was marked by traditional music and dance performances, including the rendering of sacred songs by the Emehe and Osikhian groups.
The newly titled chiefs performed the Ekpomwen-abor thanksgiving ritual, expressing their heartfelt gratitude to the Oba in a dignified and culturally rich manner.
The Eriyo of Benin, Chief Osayawe Odia, thanked Almighty God, Oba Ewuare, and the revered ancestors for the honour bestowed upon him.
He pledged to uphold and preserve Benin customs and traditions with dedication, integrity, and respect for the ancestral heritage.
The Oba’s gesture is aimed at strengthening Benin traditional governance through discipline, commitment, and unwavering service to the throne and community. The newly titled chiefs are expected to continue serving as role models and custodians of Benin culture and tradition.
