
England’s first black high court judge, Margret Obi

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has extended heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Margaret Obi following her historic appointment as the first African-born High Court Judge in England and Wales.
In a statement released on Saturday in Enugu, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, hailed Justice Obi’s achievement as a powerful symbol of perseverance and excellence.
Azuta-Mbata described her elevation as “a shining testament to excellence, resilience, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit of distinction across the globe.”
He emphasized that her appointment marks “a landmark moment not only for the Igbo and Nigerian people but for all Africans who strive for excellence in foreign lands.”
He further noted that Justice Obi’s career embodies the core Igbo values of integrity, diligence, and intellectual brilliance.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide celebrates this great daughter of Igboland and indeed, Nigeria, and we urge younger generations to draw inspiration from her exceptional journey and unwavering commitment to justice,” the statement read.
Justice Obi brings to the King’s Bench Division over 27 years of distinguished legal experience, having risen from the ranks of a criminal defence solicitor to one of the most respected figures in the British judiciary.
