As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged citizens to embrace peace, unity, and collective responsibility in building a stronger nation.
The President’s message was delivered on Friday during a special Jumaat prayer held at the National Mosque, Abuja, as part of events to commemorate the milestone. Represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Tinubu emphasized the importance of national cohesion.
“Differences will always exist, but the message is one of hope, unity, and togetherness. All Nigerians must imbibe these values so that collectively we can achieve the progress and prosperity that I promised since assuming office,” the President said.
He highlighted that the vision of Nigeria’s founding fathers can only be fulfilled when citizens live in peace, respect one another, and commit to national development.
While acknowledging the challenges facing the country, Tinubu expressed optimism about ongoing reforms, stating:
“Though the country is undergoing transformation, my administration is making steady progress towards tackling them. I call on Nigerians to be patient as efforts are ongoing to turn around the fortunes of the nation.”
Congratulating Nigerians on the anniversary, he urged continued prayers for the nation’s leaders and progress, reinforcing the year’s theme: “Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
The President further appealed to all Nigerians—regardless of ethnic, religious, political, or social backgrounds—to unite in building the country.
“What is needed now is for Nigerians to work hand in hand,” he stressed. “I wish Nigerians a peaceful and joyous celebration.”
Also in attendance at the prayer session was Alhaji Mohammed Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, who noted that Nigeria is on a path to regaining its “lost glory” among nations.
Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Traditional Council, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, also addressed the gathering, offering prayers for peace, unity, and national prosperity.
