Starting September 29, travelers passing through Nigeria’s busiest airports—Murtala Muhammed International in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International in Abuja—will begin using cashless and contactless payment systems, thanks to a new initiative by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in collaboration with Paystack.
The announcement, made in a statement signed by FAAN management in Abuja on Friday, revealed that “Operation Go Cashless” will cover all payment points within the airports.
This includes access gates, car parks, VIP sections, and protocol lounges, where transactions will now only be accepted through digital channels.
According to the authority, the new system is designed to “provide fast and secure payment, reduce reliance on cash, and improve customer experience at airports.”
The cashless upgrade is also expected to boost revenue transparency and bring Nigeria’s airport infrastructure in line with international digital standards.
To support passengers during the rollout, FAAN noted that it has deployed trained brand ambassadors to assist with onboarding, demonstrate how the system works, and answer any questions from travelers.
Passengers can also obtain and activate a ‘FAAN Go Cashless Card’ at the airport entry points or online via www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng.
“FAAN remains committed to continuous improvement and will expand this cashless policy to other airports nationwide in phases,” the agency said.
