Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced stringent measures against passengers exhibiting disruptive or threatening behavior at the nation’s airports, following a series of recent incidents.
In a statement issued on Monday in Lagos by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the authority condemned the recurring unruly conduct, emphasizing that such actions are unacceptable.
“The Authority will not hesitate to implement relevant sanctions as stipulated in ICAO Annex 17, Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, especially Part 17, and FAAN Bye Laws against any form of disruptive or threatening behaviour within airport premises,” Orah stated.

Orah urged passengers to familiarize themselves with their rights and responsibilities, as well as airline obligations, as outlined by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and FAAN Bye Laws.
She further noted that FAAN is revising its protocols for restraining and prosecuting offenders in accordance with the Airport Approved Security Programme and applicable laws.
Addressing a recent incident at Murtala Muhammed Airport Domestic Terminal 2 (MMA2) involving an Ibom Air passenger, Orah revealed, “The FAAN Aviation Security team has since intervened, taken the individual into custody, and handed her over to the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation and prosecution.”
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that the passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson, who allegedly assaulted a crew member and attempted to use a fire extinguisher, was swiftly arraigned and remanded to Kirikiri Correctional Facility.
FAAN reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of all airport users, urging passengers to act in a civil and orderly manner.
“Inappropriate behaviour will be sanctioned in line with relevant laws and protocols,” Orah warned, underscoring the authority’s zero-tolerance stance.
