Lagos State Police Command has arrested six individuals linked to the kidnapping of two victims in separate incidents.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed this during a press briefing in Lagos on Monday.
According to Jimoh, the suspects were detained for their roles in conspiracy and kidnapping.
“Operatives from our Anti-Kidnapping Unit acted decisively to apprehend these individuals, and investigations are ongoing to bring other accomplices to justice,” he stated.
In one case, reported on July 13, Ayogu Kelvin from Yaba informed authorities that his 16-year-old son was kidnapped by unidentified persons.
The perpetrators allegedly extorted ₦2,000,000, along with a headset, a school bag, and an iPhone 12.
Following the report, detectives swiftly tracked down and arrested suspects aged between 22 and 26.
In a related development, on August 1, police apprehended a key suspect involved in the July 18 abduction of another victim in Ayetoro, Ijanikin. The suspect was arrested in Ogijo, Ogun State, where the gang had allegedly robbed the victim of ₦5,000,000.
“Our team’s relentless efforts led to the recovery of critical evidence, including a Toyota RAV4, a bulletproof vest, and other items used in the crime,” Jimoh disclosed.
Recovered items include a Toyota RAV4 (Reg. No. KWL 883 DL), a bulletproof vest, two vehicle number plates, three POS machines, and two security personnel identity cards. Additionally, a woman identified as the owner of the bank account used to collect the ransom was taken into custody.
Jimoh assured the public that the police are intensifying efforts to capture remaining gang members, emphasizing a commitment to curbing kidnapping and related crimes in Lagos.
