Ondo State Police Command has made a breakthrough in the kidnapping case of two staff members of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
The command’s spokesperson, Olushola Ayanlade, said the three suspected kidnappers have been arrested in connection with the abduction.
According to him, the suspects were caught while sharing the ransom money in a forest near Ago Panu, a village between Oba Akoko and Owo in Ondo State.
The victims were kidnapped by gunmen on Monday, August 4, at their residence along Supare Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area.
They were released on Sunday, August 10, after an undisclosed amount was paid as ransom.
Reports indicate the suspects were caught while sharing the ransom money in a forest near Ago Panu, a village between Oba Akoko and Owo in Ondo State.
Speaking on the development, DSP Ayanlade said, “I can confirm to you that our operatives arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the kidnapping of two AAUA lecturers.”
He added that the suspects are currently undergoing profiling and interrogation.
Ondo State Police Commissioner Adebowale Lawal has directed that the suspects and all recovered exhibits be transferred to the anti-kidnapping squad for discreet and thorough investigations.
“Meanwhile, the commissioner of police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, has directed that
the suspects and all exhibits recovered be transferred to the anti-kidnapping squad for discreet and thorough investigations,” DSP Ayanlade stated .
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to prevent further criminal activities in the state.
