The Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu on Friday unveiled the Governors cup competition for the year 2023.

The governor, who was represented by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Albert Ayambem said it is not just unveiling but turning around of sporting development in the state.

The state Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon Agnes Atsu, said on assumption of office she charged her team that they will do everything possible to reposition sports development in the state

According to the Commissioner, Football today has become a big market With high potential for economic growth .

‘This Competition will start simultaneously in four centers namely Yala, Ikom, Ugep,and Calabar to bring the fun closer to the people. It is tagged “The Sweet Prince Football Competition”.

The Wife of the Cross River State Governor, Efiowan Bassey Otu, said the Governor’s Cup hold special place in our hearts.

This competition she stated will strengthen the bond s of friendship and bring people together as a symbol of unity.

On his part, the State Chairman of Cross River State Football Association (FA), Apostle Essien Ayi commended the Cross River State Government for their interest in sports.

He described the governor as a peculiar person who had shown interest in football revolution in the state within the short period in his administration.

Earlier, the Chairman of Cross River FA led members of the Association and other stakeholders in a football Carnival float along major street in Calabar, the state capital.

The governor cup competition is competed for by 18 Local Government Areas of Cross River State and 6 private teams in the state.
