In a strong show of unity and purpose, the Forum of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Chairmen has thrown its full weight behind the party’s National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun, and the National Working Committee (NWC), as preparations heighten for the PDP National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The endorsement came at the end of a crucial meeting held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, which had twenty-nine (29) state chairmen in attendance.
In a communiqué signed by Tony Aziegbemi, Edo State Chairman and Chairman of the Forum, and Edward Mashal, Kaduna State Chairman and Secretary of the Forum, the chairmen reaffirmed their loyalty to the national leadership and pledged unwavering commitment to the party’s unity and success.
“The Forum unequivocally reaffirms its total support, confidence, and loyalty to the National Chairman of our great Party, Ambassador Umar Damagun, and the entire National Working Committee (NWC),” the statement read.
The chairmen also commended the judiciary for what they described as a “courageous and well-considered judgment” delivered by Hon. Justice Akintola, which cleared the way for the upcoming convention. According to the communiqué, the ruling has “paved the way for the conduct of the forthcoming National Elective Convention” and demonstrated the judiciary’s commitment to fairness and democracy.
As the PDP prepares for the Ibadan convention, the Forum urged all recognized delegates to “begin preparations in earnest” to elect credible and competent leaders into the NWC, in line with the provisions of the party’s 2017 Constitution (as amended).
The chairmen further lauded the synergy between the NWC led by Damagun, the PDP Governors’ Forum chaired by Senator Bala Mohammed, and the Board of Trustees under Senator Adolphus Wabara. This collaboration, they said, has “contributed immensely to stabilizing and repositioning the Party.”
On the issue of discipline, the Forum emphasized the need for strict adherence to party rules, urging all state chapters to take firm action against members whose conduct threatens internal unity. “The Forum emphasizes the critical importance of discipline within the Party and calls on all State Chapters not to hesitate in invoking the relevant provisions of the Party Constitution to discipline erring members,” the statement noted.
Reaffirming its commitment to the party’s progress, the Forum declared its full support for the current leadership while distancing itself from any factional claims. “The Forum dissociates itself from the purported Abdurahman leadership and wants to categorically say that the PDP has only one National Chairman, His Excellency Umar Damagun,” it stated.
The meeting also highlighted the participation of PDP chairmen from the North Central zone, signaling broad-based support for the Damagun-led leadership.
With just over a week to the convention, Thursday’s resolutions appear to strengthen the party’s internal alignment as it gears up for a critical moment that could shape its future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
