A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Prince ’Laja Adeoye, has appealed to party leaders who are in court over internal disputes to withdraw their cases and resolve grievances through the party’s internal mechanisms.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday, Adeoye urged members to put unity above personal interests as the party prepares for its forthcoming National Convention.
His appeal follows a recent Federal High Court ruling in Abuja by Justice James Omotosho, which restrained the PDP from holding its convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. The court cited the party’s alleged failure to comply with its constitution and the Electoral Act, including not conducting valid congresses in some states and failing to give the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the required 21-day notice.
Adeoye advised those behind the court action to take advantage of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process contained in the PDP constitution rather than prolonging legal battles.
> “The PDP has its own constitutional process for conflict resolution, and every loyal member should respect that,” he said.
He emphasized that the party remains law-abiding and would not disregard any valid court order, but stressed that internal dialogue and reconciliation remain the best path forward.
Adeoye further referenced a past Supreme Court judgment, which affirmed that political parties have the constitutional authority to manage their internal affairs without external interference.
> “The recent court pronouncement cannot vitiate the already planned National Convention,” he added confidently.
The PDP chieftain expressed optimism that the convention would hold as scheduled and produce a new, credible national leadership to reposition the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.
> “This is not the time for division or suspicion; it is the time to rebuild and strengthen our foundation,” Adeoye urged.
He disclosed that the party had suspended some officials accused of working against its progress, advising them to appear before the disciplinary committee to clear their names and restore confidence within the ranks.
Adeoye concluded by calling on all stakeholders to prioritize unity, discipline, and collective progress, expressing hope that the upcoming convention would mark a new chapter for the PDP’s growth and political revival.
