PDP holds state congress, re-elects state executives

PDP Bauchi state congress election held recently.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi state, has re-elected its executives to pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years. 

The state congress took place at the  Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall in Bauchi on Saturday.

The incumbent state Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam was re-elected for the second time after scoring about 3, 000 votes in an unopposed contest.

The other executives were also returned unopposed. 

Akuyam, in a speech on behalf of the other executives shortly after they were elected, promised to work towards making the party in the state better.

While thanking party members for giving them another mandate, Akuyam said that they will consolidate on the democratic dividends so far provided by the PDP led administration in the to further take the state to greater heights. 

He called on the party faithful and stakeholders not to relent on drawing their attention whenever they err so as to have a smooth operation of the party in the state.

Akuyam who promised to be transparent in the discharge of their responsibilities, reminded his colleagues that justice is the backbone of peace in every setting and hence, the need to embrace it.

He said: “Four years ago, we were given the mantle of the leadership of this party and we promised to be just in all we will do and there is nothing that brings peace in leadership more than justice. Injustice is what destroys leadership at all levels.

“This leadership positions that we have been given will not make us proud, it won’t make us arrogant because we are not the best and it wasn’t as if we won wrote an exam and became the best but it was God and our leaders that gave us the opportunity.

“The other time we were elected, we were executives of the party under a different government, but now, we are in leadership under a government that is from our party, so we must be careful and respectful to the leaders.”

In his remarks, the state governor, Bala Mohammad, commended the delegates for exhibiting high sense of maturity during the exercise.

Represented by his Deputy, Senator Baba Tela, the governor said: “The government of Bauchi state and indeed his excellency, requires nothing from you but loyalty and cooperation to move the state forward”. He said.

He charged them to be up and doing particularly now that the local government elections were around the corner.

“I’d also like to draw the attention of the members of the executive council as well as the members of the party, you are aware that the 17th of October has been fixed for the local government elections in Bauchi state.

“Now, it is your time, it is the time for the party, for the PDP to come out enforced and en mass to ensure that it conducts credible primaries leading to credible elections into the local government councils.

“The government does not preferred candidates, the government will give a level playing ground to all persons who want to contest the local government elections and we hope that we will do the elections peacefully like we’ve done this Congress,” the governor stated.

Mohammed commended the chairman and members of the congress deployed from Abuja to conduct the congress for job well done.
