Speaker, Plateau House of Assembly, Gabriel Dewan
In a surprise move, the Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly, Gabriel Dewan, has resigned from his position, paving the way for a new leader to emerge.
Daniel Naanlong, representing Mikang Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was unanimously elected as the new leader of the 24-member legislature.

The emergency plenary that led to Naanlong’s emergence was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Gwotta Ajang. The motion for Naanlong’s election was moved by Nanbol Listick (LP, Langtang North Central) and seconded by Abdul Yanga (APC, Mangu North East).
Dewan, the lone member of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the assembly, submitted his resignation letter during the emergency plenary.
His resignation is seen as part of a broader effort to stabilize the political climate in Plateau, where Dewan shares the same senatorial zone as Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
Naanlong brings experience to the role, having served as the majority leader in the 9th Assembly.
His emergence is expected to shape. The outcome of this development will likely have significant implications for the future of the Plateau House of Assembly.
