Zamfara State has been plagued by recurring violent attacks, kidnappings, and killings, often attributed to armed bandits, leaving residents in a state of fear and insecurity.
The quiet of Kuraje community in Zamfara State was shattered late Friday night when armed bandits swept into the village, firing sporadically and dragging women and children into the dark.
But less than twenty-four hours later, every one of the abducted residents—ten women and fifteen children—was back home, thanks to a swift and coordinated response from security operatives.
Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the development in a statement released in Gusau on Saturday.
According to him, the attackers stormed Kuraje in the Damba axis of Gusau Local Government Area around 9:45 p.m., seizing the residents before fleeing toward the forest.
“During the attack, the assailants abducted ten women and fifteen children, all residents of the Kuraje community,” Abubakar said.
He explained that joint Police patrol units and Community Protection Guards immediately mobilised after receiving a distress call, tracking the bandits’ movement and engaging them in what he described as a well-coordinated rescue operation.
“Thanks to the professionalism and gallantry of the operatives, all twenty-five victims were rescued unhurt,” he added.
The rescued women and children were taken to Sabongari in Damba for safety checks and profiling before being reunited with their families, the command noted.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maikaba, commended the officers involved, describing their response as exemplary. He reaffirmed the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property across Zamfara, assuring residents that security agencies remain on high alert.
“Their efforts are commendable,” Maikaba said, pledging that the command would continue to strengthen its operations to keep communities safe.
