Yobe State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for Abba Hassan, a condemned inmate who escaped from the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum on October 31, 2025.
In a statement released on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the escape and appealed for the public’s help in locating the fugitive.
“Abba Hassan, a native of Maiduguri, Borno State, was on death row before his escape,” Abdulkarim said.
He added that the authorities have alerted various security agencies, local transport operators, community leaders, and vigilante groups across Yobe and neighboring states to assist in the search.
The police spokesman also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information about Hassan’s whereabouts to the nearest police station or correctional facility.
He stressed that anyone spotting the fugitive should avoid confronting him directly and instead contact the authorities at the emergency number 08038452982.
“We are fully committed to tracking down and re-arresting this individual, and the cooperation of the public is vital to ensuring community safety,” Abdulkarim assured, emphasizing the importance of collective action in the pursuit of the escaped prisoner.
