Police, mob kill suspected kidnappers, cattle rustler in Bauchi

Two suspected kidnappers have been killed in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the Bauchi State Police Command has said.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State, Auwal Muhammad, stated this while addressing journalists at a press conference at the Command’s headquarters.

 

CP Muhammad said that while the two suspected kidnappers were killed during a gun battle with the Police, a suspected cattle rustler was killed following a mob action.

He said that no fewer than 13 suspected bandits, kidnappers, cattle rustlers terrorizing residents of various communities in Ningi Local Government Area of the State including a disabled person, were arrested by security agents during different raids at their dens.

According to him, some of the kidnappers escaped into the bushes with wounds suffered as a result of gunshots.

Muhammad also disclosed that 11 kidnapped victims including a mother and her baby and the Village Head of Kayel community under Balma district in Ningi LGA, were rescued unhurt and reunited with their families.

He said: “On the 2nd July 2023 the Command successfully arrested six suspected gangs of Kidnappers and their informants in which four males and two females, terrorizing Burra village and Ningi LGA.

“They are as follows: Hamisu Umaru, male (30) disabled; Ahmadu Abdullahi, male (18); Adamu Wada Tela, male (18); Usman Iliya, male (15); Rabi Tela Abdulmumini, female, informant and Hajara Bello, female.

“Consequently, the arrest of the above suspects which led to the dismantling of the kidnapper’s hideout situated at Burra Forest. Due to the intense superior firepower by the Police, so many kidnappers were neutralized while others scampered in disarray and escaped with bullet wounds.

“Moreover, during the operations the Command had rescued six kidnapped victims from the kidnapper’s den, among them includes; Mai Unguwan Kayel village under Balma district, three Fulani from Kurmi with their three motorcycles and a woman with her child from Kurmi village and reunited them with their respective families hale and hearty.”

Muhammad who said that on July 31st, 2023 the operation continued to yield immense positive results which led to the rescue of another five kidnapped victims from different kidnapper’s enclaves at Burra Forest, Ningi LGA added that two suspected kidnappers were also arrested and 70 Cows, 60 sheep and goats suspected to have been rustled recovered.

He added that in another development, the Command arrested a team of cattle rustlers terrorizing Ningi and beyond.

According to him: “On July 29th, 2023, information was received from a Good Samaritan that on the same date at about 3.00am, two unknown people armed with cutlasses and sticks trespassed into the house of one Haruna Idi, male (23) of Zahi village via Burra village, and beat the occupant to an unconscious condition and made away with his cows.

“On receipt of information, a team of detectives was drafted from Ningi Divisional Headquarters which swung into action, rushed to the scene. They found that one of the culprits, Abubakar Ahmed, male (45) was neutralized by mob action and arrested one Abdullahi Ahmadu, male (22) and recovered the cows from him.

“In addition, on August 2nd, 2023 at about 8.00am, intelligence at the Command’s disposal revealed that some unknown bandits launched an attack at Tabia and Kongoro axis.

“On receipt of the intelligence, operatives swiftly swung into action at the scene, neutralized two of the bandits and evacuated the corpses from the mountain and deposited them at the Ningi General Hospital mortuary; the operatives recovered the sum of N300,000 from them.”

He added that also, on August 1st, 2023 at about 11.20am, the Command’s operatives arrested one Bilyaminu Ali (25) and Tasiu Safiyanu (25) all males from Mani village, Katsina State, they were arrested around U.B.A Bank Ningi and during interrogation, they couldn’t give a satisfactory account of themselves but noted that investigation is ongoing.

“Furthermore on the same date (August 1st, 2023) at about 3.00pm, Police detectives in conjunction with the Nigerian Army and other Quasi security outfits arrested four members of kidnapper’s groups stationed within Kongoro Community and observing the movement of the communities.

“They include: Rahane Abubakar, female; Habu Tukur, male (23) of Kongoro; Mohammed Rabiu, male (40) of Kongoro; Idris Haruna, male and Sule Haruna, male,” he added.

The police boss said the command would not shy away from its constitutional mandate of protecting the lives and properties of the hard-working citizens/residents through robust synergy/partnership with all relevant stakeholders in the state.
