To ensure a safe and orderly voting process, the Rivers State Police Command has introduced a statewide movement restriction for August 30, the scheduled date for the Local Government Elections.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, announced during a press conference in Port Harcourt.
SP Iringe-Koko sad the ban will be active from midnight to 6:00 p.m., affecting both pedestrians and vehicles.
Exemptions will apply to those engaged in essential election-related duties, Iringe-Koko clarified.
“This step is crucial to maintaining peace and protecting voters and election officials,” she stated.
Security forces will be strategically positioned across land and waterways to ensure safety.
Iringe-Koko, further, appealed to the public, saying, “We encourage full cooperation with security agencies and prompt reporting of any suspicious activities.”
The elections will determine new chairpersons and councillors for all 23 Local Government Areas in Rivers State.
