Reece James will miss Chelsea’s upcoming clash against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after suffering a hamstring injury, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano shared the update on his official X account, saying the Chelsea captain will not be available for the meeting with the French side.
It is the latest setback for the defender, who has struggled with recurring muscle injuries in recent seasons.
James has been one of Chelsea’s main outlets on the right whenever he is fit, contributing both in defence and attack.
Without him, the team may have to shuffle their options at the back for the PSG tie, which already looks like a tough assignment.
The situation could also affect the England national football team.
James has often been in the conversation for England’s right-back role when fit, but injuries have repeatedly interrupted his run with the national team.
Another spell out may complicate things when the next squad selections come around.
Chelsea have felt his absence before.
During the 2022–23 season, James missed a lengthy spell with a knee injury, forcing the team to rely on other options on the right side of defence.
It was a period that showed how much the side depend on his presence down that flank.
News of the latest setback quickly drew reactions online, with some fans expressing frustration over the defender’s injury record.
One Instagram user, eyousufaziz, wrote, “New contract, same Reece James,” while another commenter added bluntly, “Bro made of glass.”
