Security has been significantly beefed up at the National Assembly (NASS) complex in Abuja ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to mark the 2025 Democracy Day celebration.
The President has been invited to address a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives on Thursday.
The security measures include the deployment of armed policemen, personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Sergeant-at-Arms to man entrances to the complex. Only accredited journalists and essential staff of the National Assembly have been granted access to the building.
It would be recalled that the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, had revealed plans to initiate legislation mandating the President to annually deliver a State of the Nation address in the National Assembly’s hallowed chamber on June 12.
“It is our desire to institutionalise the State of the Nation address,” Bamidele said.
“We will bring a bill to address it to ensure that it is institutionalised.”
