Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of Dr. Aminu Yusuf as Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), along with Kigbun Haruna and Tonga Bularafa as commissioners.
Dr. Yusuf will represent Niger State on the commission’s board, while Haruna and Bularafa will serve as representatives of Nasarawa and Yobe States, respectively.
Their confirmation came after the Senate reviewed and adopted a report presented during plenary by Senator Victor Umeh (LP–Anambra), who chairs the Committee on National Identity and National Population.
In his presentation, Umeh stated that the nominees met all the required educational and professional qualifications for their roles. “There were no petitions or adverse security reports against any of the nominees from the Nigerian Police Force or the Department of State Services,” he added.
Umeh also noted that each nominee demonstrated a strong understanding of Nigeria’s demographic landscape and appeared fully prepared to take on the responsibilities of their positions.
He concluded by recommending that the Senate approve their appointments — a motion that was subsequently adopted.
