Vice-President Kashim Shettima has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s decisive policy measures are designed to serve the best interests of Nigerians.
Speaking during a meeting with the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Shettima emphasized the administration’s commitment to economic renewal. The delegation, led by NACCIMA’s National President, Jani Ibrahim, paid a courtesy visit, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Shettima highlighted efforts to foster a business-friendly environment through reforms like fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and tax restructuring. “Nigeria is open for business, and you are the catalysts for progress,” he told the group, adding, “I proudly align with the business and productive sectors. This is how nations like South Korea thrive.”
He underscored Tinubu’s resolve to push through reforms despite opposition from vested interests, calling them essential for national progress. “This government reflects your aspirations. The President, who honed his skills in commerce and led financially at Mobil, understands business dynamics,” Shettima said.
Praising Tinubu’s bold move to eliminate the fuel subsidy, Shettima noted, “It was a persistent drain on our economy. Despite pushback from powerful oil interests, the President stood firm, acting for Nigerians’ greater good.”
In his remarks, Ibrahim, recently elected NACCIMA President at the association’s 65th Annual General Meeting in Ilorin, Kwara State, praised Shettima’s leadership in economic bodies like the National Economic Council and the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council. “Economic growth hinges on robust government-private sector partnerships, with the private sector driving progress and the government providing the framework,” he said.
Ibrahim advocated for regular dialogues, suggesting biannual consultations with the Vice-President’s office and greater private-sector representation in government bodies overseeing trade, industry, and small businesses. (NAN)
