Sokoto State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic boat accident on the Kojiyo River in Goronyo Local Government Area.
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that the boat, carrying 51 passengers, goods, and motorcycles, capsized on Sunday at the Kojiyo River.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported on Monday that 26 individuals had been rescued, while efforts to locate the remaining 25 missing passengers continue.
In a statement released to the press in Sokoto on Tuesday, the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, conveyed the PDP’s condolences.
The party called on relevant authorities to ramp up rescue efforts to locate those still missing and to provide immediate assistance to the affected families.
Sanyinnawal emphasized the PDP’s commitment to working with relevant agencies to ensure that the families of the victims receive adequate support. The party also urged the government to prioritize safety measures on waterways to prevent future tragedies, noting that this incident underscores the urgent need to enhance safety for riverine communities.
“To the grieving families, we pray for eternal rest for the departed souls and strength for their loved ones during this challenging time, supported by the compassion of well-meaning Nigerians,” the statement read.
The PDP reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Sokoto, sharing in their sorrow and praying for the safe recovery of those yet to be found.
