The National President, Farmers Protection Association of Nigeria ( FPAN), Dr. Ibrahim Bitrus, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to jointly address the ugly situation of food shortage affecting the state and other parts of the nation leading to the untold hardship in the country.
Ibrahim Bitrus, who doubles as the Taraba State chairman of the association, at the weekend made the appeal during a press interview in his Jalingo office.
He said the president has made a promise to transform the agriculture sector to boost food security in the country.
Ibrahim lamented that the subsidy removal had affected farmers, therefore, the government should proffer solution to tackle the problem of food shortage in the country.
He advised the federal government to rehabilitate all the fertilizer plants across the country, and make available subsidized fertilizer for farmers, and also provide other farm equipment, to encourage irrigation farming system, rather than depending on raining season farming, which he described as uncontrollable and unhealthy weather for farm produce.
Ibrahim further disclosed that FPAN, which has been in existence for seven years in 24 states across the country, is saddled with the responsibility of addressing issues affecting livestock and crops, especially the regular crisis between herders and farmers in Nigeria.
