
Dead cows struck by thunderstorm

A devastating thunderstorm swept through Osara community in Ogun State’s Police Command on Saturday, killing 32 cows.
It was learnt that the incident occurred at about 4:40 p.m. when a heavy rainstorm hit the area, bringing with it intense lightning that struck the unsuspecting animals.
According to the Ogun Police Command, two herders from the Osara community reported to the police divisional headquarters at Aregbe that their cows were found dead in a nearby forest after the storm.
The herders, who were jointly responsible for the livestock, suspected that the deaths may have resulted from the thunderstorm.
“The herders suspected that the deaths may have resulted from thunderstorm with intense lightning,” the Command’s Spokesperson, Mrs. Omolola Odutola, said.
She said the police conducted a prompt on-the-spot assessment, but found no visible injuries on the cows.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lanre Ogunlowo, urged the community to remain calm, describing the incident as a natural phenomenon.
“The community should treat the incident as a natural phenomenon and remain calm,”* he said.
