President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to oversee the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Segun Imohiosen, disclosed that the committee will be chaired by the SGF, Sen. George Akume.
The committee comprises key government officials, including: Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Minister of Defence, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Minister of Works, Minister of Interior.
Others include: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, National Security Adviser.
Others are Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Inspector-General of Police, Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), Chief of Defence Staff.
The committee is tasked with planning and coordinating a dignified state burial for the late former President.
According to the statement, “The Office of the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, will serve as the Secretariat to the committee.”
The President has also directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers for members of the public to pay their respects. Central condolence registers will be available at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, for the diplomatic community and the general public.
As Sen. Akume assumes leadership of the committee, the nation prepares to bid farewell to the late statesman, with tributes pouring in from across the country.
“The committee will ensure that the state burial is conducted with the dignity and honor befitting the late former President’s stature,” a government official said.
