As the world celebrated tourism day, the Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, Jalingo Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, has called on the Taraba State government to redouble their efforts and support the department of Tourism to showcase their potentials.
Prof. Bako made the appealed during the celebration of the world tourism day organized by the department of Tourism and Heritage held in the university campus, Jalingo Taraba State.
The VC, who was represented by the Registrar of the institution, Mr. Joseph Umar Bibinu, said tourism is a source of providing knowledge, peace and unity among the people.
He reiterated that tourism is nature give to humanity, and government should encourage tourism as another avenue of generating money and improving the economic growth of Taraba state.
In the same vein, the Dean Faculty of Management Sciences, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi stressed that tourism day is the event for sensitizating the people to understand the importance of tourism in their lives.
He frowned at the manner government handle the activities of tourism for granted, adding that many developed countries survive from tourism as the sector is well structured for generating wealth.
On her part, the Head Of Department ( HOD) Tourism, Taraba State University Dr. Esther Baba expressedher profound gratitude to the leadership of the Prof. Sunday Bako for his excellence stewardship.
Dr. Esther disclosed that tourism provides love among people, create an opportunity for unity and peace, irrespective of one’s tribe or culture. “The theme of 2024 World Tourism Day is Tourism and Peace”.
In a paper presentation, title ” Tourism, Justice, and Peace: Breaking Barriers and Amplifying the voice of the Unheard” by Dr. Vincent Ojeh said tourism is composed of three pillars, which is social justice, economic development and environmental integrity.
