A tragic boat accident struck Garin-Faji Village in Sabon-Birni, Sokoto State, at approximately 5:30 AM, claiming six lives and leaving three people unaccounted for.
19 others were rescued, but the incident has plunged the community into grief.
In response, a joint team from the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Sokoto Operations Office, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), and the Red Cross conducted an assessment mission.
Led by Alhaji Aliyu Shehu Kafin-Dangi, Head of NEMA Sokoto Operations, the delegation included Hon. Aminu Liman Bodinga, represented by Mustapha Umar, Director of Relief and Rehabilitation at Sokoto SEMA, and Engr. Muhammad Bello Bala of NIWA.
The team met with community leaders and victims’ families to gather details and offer support.
Authorities confirmed that search and rescue efforts are ongoing to locate the three missing individuals.
