Terrorists logistics cache intercepted by troops in Borno
In the volatile landscape of Nigeria’s North East, where the scars of a decade-long insurgency by Boko Haram and its splinter groups like ISWAP continue to fester, security forces face an unrelenting battle not just against armed fighters but against the shadowy networks that sustain them.
Cross-border smuggling routes, particularly along the porous frontiers with Niger Republic, have long served as lifelines for terrorists, ferrying everything from bomb-making materials to medical supplies and even raw fabrics for disguising fighters as civilians.
Amid this high-stakes theater, troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have struck a significant blow, intercepting a massive cache of logistics supplies that could have fueled further atrocities.
The breakthrough unfolded on September 16, 2025, along the dusty stretches of the Nguru–Gashua road in Yobe State—a notorious artery for illicit trade in this arid, conflict-riddled region.
Media Information Officer for JTF North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday in Maiduguri.
Lt. Col. Uba said the troops under Operation DESERT SANITY IV, acting on credible intelligence, conducted snap checks at around 0740 hours (7:40 a.m.), halting a suspicious red 14-tyre trailer.
He said the vehicle, its cargo shrouded in deception, was swiftly escorted to a secure location for unloading, revealing a trove hidden beneath innocent bundles of fabric.
He said as the inspection deepened later that evening at about 2100 hours (9:00 p.m.), the full extent of the haul emerged: 700 bags of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer— a dual-use staple in agriculture but a deadly precursor for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in terrorist hands—alongside 27 cartons of assorted drugs and nine cartons of normal saline solution.
“This consignment was reportedly billed for onward movement to Niger Republic, suggesting cross-border terrorist supply networks,” noted the Media Information Officer for JTF North East, Operation HADIN KAI,.
He said the operation’s momentum built on an earlier success that same morning at 1030 hours, when troops on the same axis intercepted two Sharon vehicles and another trailer brimming with large quantities of fabrics and solar panels.
“Terrorists were attempting to acquire fabrics for the production of uniforms for their fighters,” Uba explained, underscoring how such mundane items can cloak insurgents in the garb of legitimacy.
“All drivers, motor boys, and the recovered items are now in custody, with investigations underway to ensnare the identified consignees and consignors”, he said..
He said the Theatre Command has reaffirmed its resolve, assuring the public that troops “remain vigilant and committed to cutting off all supply chains sustaining terrorists in the region.” The Military High Command lauded the troops for their “impressive battle performance.”
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely information to security forces to aid ongoing operations.
