Weapons recovered from the suspects
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified counter-terrorism operations across Zamfara State, neutralising a suspected terrorist, arresting several suspects, and recovering motorcycles, communication equipment, and military-style items during a series of coordinated operations conducted between June 5 and 6.
According to the Media Information Office of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the operations were carried out across Birnin Magaji, Kaura Namoda, Zurmi, Maru, and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks in the region.
The task force disclosed that troops on routine patrol around Birnin Tsaba and Tsanu communities in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area on June 5 encountered armed terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village. A gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of one suspected terrorist, while seven motorcycles believed to have been used by the group were recovered.
On June 6, troops responded to a distress call following an attack on Anguwar Sarkin Musulmi in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. However, the attackers had fled through nearby bush paths before security personnel arrived. The assailants were reported to have carted away valuables belonging to residents before escaping.
The same day, armed bandits reportedly ambushed two civilian vehicles along the Kaura Namoda–Zurmi highway between Jabanda and Dauran communities in Zurmi Local Government Area. Troops were deployed to the scene shortly after the attack, secured the area, and evacuated injured victims for medical treatment.
The military said efforts have been intensified to track down the attackers and determine the whereabouts of any passengers who may still be unaccounted for.
Also on June 6, troops conducting patrol operations around Tudun Wada and Dan Gulbi communities in Maru Local Government Area arrested eight suspected bandits. Items recovered during the operation included seven motorcycles, communication devices, mobile phones, power banks, and military-style uniforms.
Security personnel also destroyed a structure believed to have served as a hideout or operational base for the suspects.
In a separate intelligence-driven operation conducted on June 5, troops arrested a suspect linked to the possession of ammunition at Tupa village in Shinkafi Local Government Area. The suspect is currently in custody and is assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries.
The Media Information Office stated that the operations form part of sustained military efforts to disrupt the mobility, logistics, and coordination capabilities of terrorist and bandit groups operating across the North-West.
The task force further appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid ongoing clearance and counter-terrorism operations.
