Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by terrorists on several military locations across Borno State, including Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok.
In a statement issued on Friday, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer at the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri, said the assaults occurred between about 10:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., but were firmly resisted by vigilant troops who maintained their defensive positions despite the intensity of the attacks.
According to him, the terrorists launched desperate attempts to overrun the military locations but encountered strong resistance.
“The desperate attacks, launched between approximately 2230hrs uptill 0300 hours this morning, were met with overwhelming resistance from alert and determined troops who firmly held their defensive positions despite the intensity of the assaults,” he said.
Uba explained that the troops carried out coordinated flanking manoeuvres with reinforcement teams from Sectors 1 and 2, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray.
“In a well-coordinated response, troops executed simultaneous flanking manoeuvres alongside reinforcement teams drawn from Sectors 1 and 2, decisively routing the attacking terrorists and forcing them into disorganised withdrawals,” the statement added.
He noted that although some sections of the defensive perimeter were briefly breached, soldiers quickly counter-attacked and restored control. “In some isolated instances where sections of the defensive perimeter were temporarily breached, troops swiftly counter-attacked and fully regained control of their positions.”
During the clashes, several insurgents were killed, including key commanders. “During the fierce engagements, several terrorist leaders, including key Amirs (Leaders), were neutralised while a number of insurgent fighters were eliminated during the counter-offensive,” he stated.
Despite damage to some structures during the heavy fighting, the military maintained control of all the bases.
He also revealed that the Air Component supported the operation with targeted strikes on fleeing insurgents.
“In close coordination with the Air Component, multiple precision air strikes were conducted overnight against fleeing terrorist elements and identified hostile positions, further neutralising scores of insurgents and degrading their fighting capability,” Uba said.
He added that troops are currently conducting follow-up operations across the affected locations, recovering the bodies of insurgents as well as weapons and other combat equipment.
The military, however, confirmed casualties among its ranks. “Regrettably, a number of brave soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty, including a gallant Officer who fought courageously from the front while leading his troops against the attackers.”
The statement described the fallen soldiers’ sacrifice as a testament to the dedication of the Armed Forces to safeguarding the country and its citizens.
“Their sacrifice reflects the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to defending the nation and protecting innocent citizens,” Uba said, adding that the failed attacks highlight the growing desperation of terrorists facing sustained pressure from ongoing military operations.
He stressed that Operation HADIN KAI remains firmly in control of the operational environment across the North-East theatre.
