The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has confirmed the death of a police officer and the injury of another following a tragic road accident in Abuja on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident happened at about 2:20 p.m. along the Sani Abacha Expressway, close to the National Ecumenical Centre, when a mixer truck reportedly lost control and veered into the officers who were on official duty.
Preliminary findings according to her, showed that the truck was being driven by one Salman Usman, an employee of a construction company in Wuse Zone 5.
She said the impact of the crash claimed the life of one officer instantly, while the second officer sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
“This sad occurrence reflects the hazards and risks our officers face daily in the course of protecting lives and ensuring smooth traffic management within the FCT,” the Police Command PRO noted in its statement.
SP Adeh said the truck driver has since been arrested, and other affected vehicles have been moved from the scene for further inspection as part of the ongoing investigation.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of the deceased. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured officer.
He assured residents that “the investigation will be thorough and justice will be served.”
