ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi-
No fewer than two people were killed and 11 others injured when a gas cylinder exploded inside a garage in Azare town, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The accident was said to have occurred inside the garage located along Jama’are road, on Monday afternoon.
A source in Azare told our correspondent via a phone conversation, explained that the driver of a trailer drove into the garage with the intention of effecting some repairs in the workshop of a welder.
The source said: “It was in the process of the welding, that another welder who was using gas to weld in another vehicle, than suddenly, the gas cylinder exploded.
“The fire from the explosion then spread to where the trailer was parked and it immediately caught fire and torched people around the garage.
“This caused pandemonium as people scampered for safety from the raging flame burning many in the process.”
The source added that though the driver tried to drive the trailer outside the garage, he could not because of the intensity of the flame and he died in the process as the fire overpowered him.
As of the time of filing this report, 11 people were said to have been seriously burnt and were currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center and the General Hospital all in Azare Town.
Efforts to get a reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, ASP Ahmed Wakil, failed as he did not pick his calls as they rang out.
He also did not replied a text message sent to him.
