The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has concluded arrangement to honoured some prominent Nigerians, who had contributed to the development of the country at the 37th convocation and 50th anniversary celebration.
The VC of UNICAL, Professor Florence Obi, disclosed this during the pre-convocation press briefing on Monday at the University Senate Chamber in Calabar.
According to the Vice Chancellor, Mrs Ekatte Uloma Godswill Akpabio is to bag doctorate degree in Education Management, Nyesom Ezenwo Nweke will bag a doctorate degree in Political Science Governor Bassey Otu Doctorate degree in Political Science, Major General Moses Obi will bag a doctorate degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, Justice Emmanuel Akomaye will bag a doctorate degree in Law and Chief Arthur Eze will bag a doctorate degree in Business Management.
She said the university would also feature the investiture of Emeritus Professor of the University whose intellectual contribution to their discipline are widely acknowledge.
She listed them to include: Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braid of the Faculty of Biological Science Professor Eme Effiom Osim of Faculty of Basic Science and Professor Chriss Mwsmuo of Faculty of Art
The VC said the University would honor a total of 13,786 graduands.
According to her, the graduating class comprises 181 diploma students, 11,725 students receiving first degrees, 877 students earning master’s degrees, and 572 students receiving PhDs. Additionally, 249 students will receive postgraduate diplomas, and 7 students will be awarded post-doctoral diplomas in education.
The academic achievements of the graduands are notable, with 66 students achieving first-class honors. Furthermore, 3,054 students have earned second-class upper division honors, 7,450 have secured second-class lower division honors, 925 have received third-class honors, and 7 students have achieved a pass.
The 37th Convocation and 50th anniversary of the Institution is a week-long activities that commenced on Monday, March 17, 2025 and will climax on Saturday, March 22, 2025 with award of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) and Honourary Causa degrees.
