Members of the University of Lagos, (UNILAG), Alumni Association, Benue State Branch. on Sunday, 14 December, 2025, visited the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp, located at Makurdi International Market, to donate some items.
Branch Chairman of the Association, Prof. John N. Samba, who led the visit, said that the association identified with the people in what he described as the unfortunate situation in which they found themselves.
He encouraged them to bear it, stressing that it was temporary as everything was being done to return them to their ancestral homes safely.
The items donated included fifteen bags of rice, two sacks of beans and bags of assorted clothing materials.
Among other members of the association on the visit included the Vice Chairman, and President, Customary Court of Appeal, Benue State, Justice Cosmas Idye; immediate past Chairman of the branch, Dr. John Owoicho Adole, and immediate past Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Aondaver Kaka’an.
Welcoming the visitors, the Camp Manager, Mr. Nyom Robert Iorember, appreciated the association for the gesture of identifying with them at that critical moment.
He gave a rundown of the total number of IDPs, adding that majority of them were survivors of the last June 13 and 14 Yelwata massacres.
He explained the organisational structure and management of the camp.
Chairman of the Camp, Mr. Friday Caleb Aboh, who received the items on their behalf, was full of gratitude to the Association particularly, according to him, as they were remembered at the period of Christmas.
He described the visit as unprecedented and prayed that God enriched the association.
He used the occasion to appeal to government to intensify efforts to ensure that they return to their ancestral homes.
