By TYAV SAM TYAV, Makurdi –
Disturbed by the spate of insecurity in Benue State, a university don and political scientist, Professor Eugene Aliegba has advocated for international collaboration to fight insecurity in Benue State.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with NATIONAL ACCORD in Makurdi, Professor Aliegba opined that a strong international collaboration would go a long way in fighting insecurity which has affected the state negatively.
The university don who participated in a conference on homeland security organized by the Benue Public Service Institute, Makurdi noted that the conference came at the right time, insisting that the suggestion by some resource persons for strong international collaboration was one of the best approaches to fight insecurity.
The former commissioner in Benue State who appreciated Governor Hyacinth Alia for his prompt response to security threats in the state emphasised that prompt payment of salaries to civil servants was a form of security to the people as he explained that one is secured if he has food on his table, children school fees and he is able to settle medical bills of his people.
While calling for attitudinal change by the Benue people ,Professor Aliegba also expressed displeasure that some traditional rulers were allegedly conniving with the herdsmen by giving them portions of land and setting the herdsmen against the host community.
Aliegba who appreciated the management of the Benue Public Service Institute Makurdi for organising the conference, expressed satisfaction that the conference has helped a lot even as he had also benefitted from the conference.
