
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum in a meeting with members of the reconstituted committee at the Government House, Maiduguri

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has inaugurated a 26-man committee to reduce prostitution, political thuggery, illegal structure used for sale of alcohol, jungles and other places of criminal activities in the state.
While inaugurating the committee members at the Government House Council Chamber Maiduguri, Zulum said the reconstitution of the committee became paramount due to the increasing rates of crimes and other social vices in the state.

He assured that Borno State is set to take significant steps towards combating social vices, promoting peace and stabilizing security which informed the inauguration of the committee.
The governor noted that the terms of reference of the committee include: to work with full dedication and involve traditional leaders, youth groups, and civil society organizations in their efforts to finding lasting solutions and reduce crime in the state.

The committee is headed by the State Attorney General, who is also the State Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Hauwa Abubakar, and co-chair by the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Hon. Sugun Mai Mele.
Other members of the committee include various security agencies, like the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, NDLEA, and Military Police.

In her remarks, Chairman of the committee, Barrister Hauwa Abubakar, thanked the governor for the trust given to her and the committee, promising to work hard to achieve the committee’s mandate.
Hauwa appealed to all stakeholders, including parents, schools, and religious leaders, to join hands in guiding the youths and building a safer society.
