
The Executive Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum

In a concerted effort to reinvigorate and reposition education and health sectors of Borno State for better service delivery, The State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has inaugurated two high powered needs assessment committees for the two critical sectors.
The governor inaugurated the committees members at the Government House Maiduguri, with a call on the the stakeholders to work towards revamping the two sectors.
He said the need assessment committee for education and health sectors comprises of members from the Borno State Assembly, state’s commissioners, LC Council chairmen and secretaries as well as two senior special assistants from each of the 27 LGAs,education secretaries and primary healthcare coordinators in the state.
According to him, the committees were expected to traverse all the 27 LGAs of the state with a view to come up with adequate and reliable data that would provide a template that would guide and give an insight on what the state government is expected to do to reposition the two critical sectors in the state.
He added that, the terms of reference of the committee’s include – identifying the numbers of primary and secondary schools, clinics, general hospitals as well as facilities and equipment requirements in each of the sectors.
Others include staff strength in the two sectors and capability of the teaching and medical staff as well as neede trainings to be provided, among others.
Governor Zulum, who lamented over the deplorable condition of the two sectors, however, noted that the state government would continue to construct infrastructures in the sectors.
He added that “there are other necessary ingredients that are needed to be provided, such as qualified teachers, in order for the two sectors to function effectively.”
The Governor also stressed that the state government has no plan to lay off anybody, but those in need of professional training would be sent for a further study while more graduates and NCE holders would be recruited to meet up the staff requirements of the two sectors.
