Zulum pledges to improve welfare of Borno judiciary members

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has vowed to improve the welfare of lawyers and legal personnel of the state judiciary so as to improve the administration of criminal justice in the state.

Zulum stated this on Monday during a 3-day workshop organized by the Borno State Ministry of Justice in partnership with the Center for Social-Legal Studies (CSLS) at the International Conference of Musa Usman State Secretariat Maiduguri from Monday, 29th April, 2024 to Wednesday, 1st May, 2024 .

They governor while declaring tge workshop open, enjoined the participants to avail themselves of the opportunity provided at the workshop to build their capacity on administration of criminal justice in the state which Borno State is known to be on the lead across the country despite its security challenges.

Zulum also appreciated the efforts and determination of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, Borno State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice , Barrister Hauwa Abubakar Isa and the State Chief Judge, Borno State, Hon. Justice Kashim Zanna.

He encouraged the NBA Maiduguri and Biu branches as well as the State Judiciary to endeavour to advance their knowledge and studies to high degrees like Master Degrees and PhD. While promising to provide a fair and free level ground to effective and efficient administration of criminal justice in the state.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fabegmi in his remark, said the organization of the workshop was appropriate as the state governor was giving the justice system a listening ear for the successes recorded in Borno state.

He applauded the efforts of Governor Zulum for speedy and efficient administration of criminal justice in the state, while emphasizing that the workshop was aimed at building and strengthening the participants on implementation of the criminal justice laws .

He urged the participants to be attentive and imbibe the knowledge they learn at the workshop to guide and encourage them in the administrative of justice.

In her welcome address, the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Justice, Barr. Hauwa Abubakar, thanked Governor Zulum for his support to the ministry and also appreciated the special guest of honour as well as personalities from the legal sector that converged for the workshop who came from far and near to participate in the important workshop.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Chairman NBA Maiduguri, Barrister Modu Grema, Chairman NBA Nasarawa State Branch, Barrister Labarin Magani, amongst others. Also, Champion of Criminal Justice Reform awards were presented to Governor Babagana Zulum, AGF Lateef Fabegmi, Borno State Chief Judge of Borno Hon. Justice Kashim Zanna, and Senator MT. Monguno.
