Zulum urges NAF to open road diversion in Maiduguri to reduce accident

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has appealed to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to open the diverted expressway along Old Jos Road at Ngomari Old Airport area to curtail frequent road accident in the area.

The governor made the call on Tuesday when he visited the scene of a fatal accident that led to the demise of some people including a top female politician, Hajiya Mallam aged 47 years.

Addressing residents of the community at the road diversion along the Jos expressway by Ngomari junction (Airforce base), Zulum said the Ngomari junction has been a notorious place for accidents that occur almost frequently.

It will be recalled that with the recent incident that occurred yesterday which led to lost of lives. The people in the community have called on Governor Zulum to intervene in other to prevent further injuries and loss of lives along the road being caused by the diversion.

Governor Zulum, further, sympathized with the people of the community for their endurance in the area.

He urged them to be patient and assured that Borno State Government under his leadership will talk to the top officials of the Nigerian Air Force in Abuja to see how jointly they will work together to open the road to ease movement of vehicles and for public use.

The governor, however, thanked the Nigerian military, police, and other security agencies including the vigilante CJTF and hunters for their contribution towards securing the state, stressing that, ” it’s time to open the expressway for use by the public to reduce casualties in the area.”
