The accident scene
Anambra State Police Command has initiated an investigation into a tragic accident that occurred early Saturday at the People’s Club/Limca Road in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Awka, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, provided details of the incident, which involved a Lexus Jeep colliding with two tricycles, commonly known as “Keke.”
According to Ikenga, preliminary investigations have clarified that the Lexus Jeep involved in the crash is not affiliated with any security agency in the state, dispelling local speculations.
“The driver of the Lexus Jeep crashed into the tricycles, leading to the tragic loss of one occupant’s life,” Ikenga stated.
He added that while several others sustained injuries of varying severity, the occupants of the Jeep fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.
Ikenga further noted, “Police operatives from Isiowulu Division responded promptly, securing the area, recovering the abandoned vehicle, and evacuating the victims to a hospital, where one was sadly confirmed deceased.”
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikioye Orutugu, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident.
“We urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with the police as we work to uncover the full details of this unfortunate event,” Ikenga conveyed on behalf of the Commissioner.
The police spokesperson assured the public that efforts are being intensified to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and bring clarity to the incident.
