Senator Onor addressing journalists on Saturday in Calabar
By PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –
The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic party (PDP) in Cross River State, Professor Sandy Onor has appealed to financial institutions in and outside the country not to grant any loan to Governor Ben Ayade led administration within the remaining days of his regime.
Professor Onor made the call during a press conference at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre in Calabar on Saturday.
He alleged that the state government under Senator Ben Ayade was planning to get a loan of N35billion from financial institutions barely few months to the end of his administration.
According to him, “as at March this year, the debt profile of the state stood at $279 million dollars from the debt management office.
“Yet the outgoing government is thinking of conniving with the State House of Assembly to borrow this whopping sum of N35 billion dollars just to put final nail on the coffin, before he leaves the stage”
“We must not allow this to happen because the incoming government will be inheriting a mountain of debt to grapple with”
“This should therefore serve as warning to all financial institutions in and outside the Country”
On Local Government election slated for 24th May next year, Senator Onor said “This cannot stand because in law, you cannot build something on nothing. In the eyes of the law, the State House of Assembly is in abeyance and cannot confirm the governor’s appointees into the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission”
