By PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –

Newton Bassey, the senatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State has vowed to restored the lost glory of the state if elected in 2023 election.

He said his quest to serve humanity has influenced his decision to work assiduously to add value to the lives of the people when elected.

The senatorial aspirant stated this over the weekend in an interview with our correspondent in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

He said: “Our representation is very low from the House of Representatives to the Senate.

“If you look at the scorecard, you will find out that not much has been done to the citizens by our legislators.

“For instance, there is no law protecting our citizens by marriage and the married woman must have a sense of belonging.

“In addition, we need someone who can checkmate the executive and facilitate development in our neglected communities”, he said.

Bassey explained that the state has lost it particularly in the area of cleanliness and the SDP will bring sanity and restore the lost glory of Cross River State.

“Cross River State has lost it, we were one of the leading states in the country in terms of cleanliness but today our place is very low”, he said.

He said the SDP parades tested and trusted candidates particularly its presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo as well as its governorship candidate in Cross River State, Effiom Okokon.

The party, he added is poised to implement its HEART agenda when it assumes office with the support of the electorates.

The HEART agenda he explained includes Health, Education, Agriculture, Restructuring and Tourism.
