A newborn baby has been rescued alive from the rubble of a collapsed building, 32 hours after the devastating twin earthquakes struck Venezuela.
Rescue workers pulled the 18-day-old infant from the debris during a late-night operation in La Guaira, drawing cheers from those at the scene.
The child, wrapped in a quilt, was carefully passed from one rescuer to another before receiving medical attention.
Reports said the baby’s mother had been rescued about an hour earlier and was later reunited with the infant in hospital.

Medical personnel confirmed that the baby showed no visible injuries despite the long ordeal.
They believe the mother may have shielded the child with her body or another object, helping the baby survive.
The powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, destroyed buildings, claimed hundreds of lives and left many people missing.
The United Nations estimates that nearly seven million people could be affected as rescue efforts and humanitarian assistance continue across the country.
